Keith McCrady is an Ojibway and Cree from the Bear Clan who has worked with Indigenous families for over twenty years. Born in Thunder Bay and raised traditionally by both parents in Blinjitwaabik Zaaging Aaishinaabek (formerly Rocky Bay First Nation), Keith says that becoming a role model in his community was an important part of his journey:
“I saw the need for guidance and support. I experienced violence, abuse, and other issues growing up.”
Determined to have a positive impact on his community, Keith has been a foster parent to over 30 aboriginal children.
Living in Toronto for the past ten years, the proud father of four worked at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto as Senior Supervisor of the Scarborough Child and Family Life Centre, and Child Care and Aboriginal Head Start Programs; currently, Keith is the executive director of the 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations. In recognition of his dedication to helping vulnerable children, Keith received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education.
Keith feels fortunate to live close to the Scarborough Bluffs.
“Growing up on Lake Nipigon, being close to water is very important and spiritual to me. We have such a beautiful place only moments away from home.”
